The price on gasoline keeps going up. Many people that have to commute to work are trying to figure out how to beat the rise in transportation costs. Some of those people are going more and more to scooters. For people that don't have to go far, scooters seem to be an answer. They don't cost as much to fill and you can get a lot better mileage by the gallon. In many areas of the country, you don't even need a license to operate a scooter.

Cheap Scooter Insurance

By Steve Brig

Your scooters insurance policy is up for renewal and you're looking as most of us are for best deals for your new scooter insurance. Then you are probably already on the look out for Deals online. Here are a number of factors to consider when shopping for motorcycle insurance online...

1. Cost of Scooter Insurance

Scooter Insurers are always on the look out for new custom and as a result are normally willing to offer generous rates for new policy joiners.

Its worth noting that most of us tend to stay with the same insurance companyfor many years as we believe we will not get better rates elsewhere and could loseour no claims bonus and secondly because it is hassle to shop around for a newinsurer. Insurance companies are very aware of this and are always keen to find newcustomers and tempt them with cut price deals.

2. Discounts for Scooter Insurance bought online

Many motorcycle insurers offer discounts for policies purchased online this is because admin costs are kept to a minimum and some insurers may offer as much as 10% to 15% discounts for policies bought online.

3. Long term savings

It's always worth checking the long term benefits of a new scooter policy. Fairly substantial savings can be made over a period of years with favourable no claims bonus schemes.

4. Reputation and Quality of Service

Last but not least. We all have to buy insurance it is a legal requirement of owning and running a vehicle. But we all want to know should the need arise that our insurers have a good reputation for paying fully and promptly.

It's also worth comparing extras that might be offered such as vehicle relay and replacement motorcycles whilst in repair.

If all the criteria above are met then you are bound to have found a good deal for your Scooter Insurance.

There are some disadvantages to using a scooter. They can be hazardous in bad weather. They are not too easily seen, when you are in a congested area of traffic. If you are one to worry about your hair, you can count on re-grooming it at your destination. But probably the most important factor is that of general safety. You don't wear a seat belt. You don't have a lot of steel and metal around you to protect you. Your percentage of getting hurt in an accident is much higher.

You might want to get a performance carb and/or a new exhaust pipe. You'll need to replace these two components (and probably the air box) at the same time to get the best performance increase. The engine is basically just an air pump. The more air you can move through the engine, the more power you get. Adding a bigger carb draws more air (and more fuel) into the engine. But you restrict the amount of added air if you don't change the air box.

Compression Check. If you just acquired your scooter, you should first do a full inspection before you try to get it running. If this is the case, I'd do a compression check first because it's easy to do. First, check the quantity and condition of the engine oil. Hook up or purchase a good battery. Leave out the spark plug and crank the scooter for ~5 seconds. This helps to circulate the oil. Let it set for ~15 seconds and then do it again. It's not a good idea to continuously crank the starter because it can overheat and wear out prematurely.

Which of These 4 Personal Mobility Scooters Will You Own?

By Mike Jezek

There are many makes and models of personal mobility scooters to choose from. Break them down and they fall into the 4 following categories of scooters. Here they are:

1) Folding/Easily Transported Scooters: Your scooter wont do you much good if you have to go onto a trip and cant take it with you. Thats when this type of scooter comes into play. Usually this type of scooter can be disassembled into 3 or 4 pieces of lightweight parts making the scooter easily transportable. Able to fit into the trunk of most cars.

2) Three-Wheeled Scooters: As the name implies, this scooter has 3 wheels instead of 4. And it usually has a maximum weight capacity of 300 to 500lbs. Offering comfort and durability, three-wheel scooters can get you where you want to go indoors and outdoors.

3) Four-Wheeled Scooters: If you plan on mostly using your scooter outdoors, then a four-wheeled personal mobility scooter is probably right for you. Obviously because this type of scooter has four wheels instead of three, its much more stable. With bigger tires than three three-wheeler, its able to go as fast as 10 miles per hour.

4) Heavy Duty Electrified Personal Mobility Scooters: This type of scooter can come with three or four wheels and can support a maximum weight capacity of 500 pounds.

The type of personal mobility scooter you buy will depend upon several factors. Including weight of the user, whether the scooter will be used mostly indoors or outdoors and the amount of usage involved. Make sure you inform your salesperson of these factors. Dont get talked into buying a scooter you dont need.

First, remove all of the rubber and gaskets or they will get damaged. After a 20 minute soaking in carb dip, I blow out the carb with compressed air. You have to get all the jets and the passageways clean. Be sure the jets are clear, especially the starter jet. Sometimes carb cleaner won't clear out these tiny jets. Use a guitar or a piano string, a strand of copper electrical wire, or a tiny drill bit pin vise. Be sure not to increase the size of the hole in the starter jet or you'll change the tuning. Carefully reassemble everything, checking for cracks in the rubber carb boots and the gaskets. Replace them if they are old and cracked. Be sure and remove all rubber and gasket material first or they could get ruined. Spray carb cleaner also works if you're diligent.

Choosing the Right Mobility Scooter For Your Needs

By Nicole Martins

Taking a look at the vast choices of mobility scooters available on the market today, you can be sure that there is one out there suitable to your needs. For example, some scooters are made to transport you over a variety of terrains, at speeds of up to 15 mph while others can make hairpin turns allowing you to maneuver the inside of your home. This is great news for someone who doesn't suffer from paralysis but does suffer from a mobility related disability.

A Basic Primer on the Different Types of Scooters on the Market

There are travel scooters designed to be portable and lightweight. This is the type to buy if you are a traveler and need a scooter that you can fold-up or disassemble easily to load into the trunk of your car. Travel scooters also tend to be the least expensive for a basic model but additional features will equal a higher priced model.

For versatility, the regular 3 wheel scooter is great because you can use it pretty comfortably both indoors and outdoors. This machine generally has a good turning radius, which is especially important for maneuvering around furniture and objects inside the house. If the primary use for your scooter is outside, you should consider a 4 wheeled scooter, which is more stable.

The next scooter type, the 4 wheel, doesn't have as excellent a turning radius of the travel scooter or the 3 wheel mobility scooter, but as mentioned above, it offers more stability. This larger machine scores higher marks in durability, too. If you need a stable scooter to navigate rugged terrain (and to use mostly outdoors), the 4 wheel scooter is your best choice. Another advantage is that these scooters tend to go the fastest and have the longest battery range. Some other features to consider if you plan to use the scooter outside to also have a master key lock, reflectors, a horn, a locking seat and an automatic circuit breaker to cut off all power so that the automatic braking system will bring the scooter to a stop in case of an electrical problem

Once you've determined the type of scooter that best meets your needs, it's time to do some research on brands, models and a reliable dealer. Factors that will affect your decision will be the price, range, comfort and weight capacity. Of course, there are other factors that you may want to consider when deciding on a scooter, so be sure to list out everything that concerns you.

Getting Around

If you plan on using your scooter inside your house but have uneven surfaces, such as a transition between two rooms, you will need a small threshold ramp. Portable scooter ramps come in a number of different types to handle a variety of situations such as getting up sidewalks, curbs or a few steps.

What About Transporting Your Scooter

If you plan on traveling by vehicle with your mobility scooter (other than a travel scooter) you will need to use either a lift or carrier. The carrier usually resides outside your van, and it is designed to transport your scooter where you need to go. Lifts and carriers can weigh between 75 and 200 pounds.

Remind your child to stand straight and not lean forward especially when swerving, as leaning over the handles can cause the rider to lose control and fall off. The only thing that separates a regular and electric scooter is that a regular scooter requires you to push forward with your foot.
